Our Quarterly Messages as always are intended to keep our alumni members informed of our activities and the progress made.
A report is now due for the Quarter, 1st April to 30th June 2013.
[1] OUR ALUMNI WEBSITE
Access is being widely and frequently made to our Alumni Website launched in April last year. We hit the historic 10,000th visitor mark just after 11 pm 20th June 2013. By 30th June, 10,157 visitors from 61 countries have visited our Website 42,828 times in aggregate. {3 months ago as at 27th March 2013: 8,908 visitors and 35,150 hits}
Website advertisement will be introduced this early August.
[2] LEADING WEBSITE FEATURES
Two outstanding articles were recently posted in June. One is written by Teo Ee Sim on Dato’ Saw Choo Boon, a distinguished Old Salt in the corporate sector. The other is a poignant tribute written by Thilakan on his late father, Mr. Ramalingam, a highly revered Mathematics teacher who served with distinction in our Alma Mater. We hope that there will be more of such features. After all, Ipoh ACS has produced many outstanding personalities amongst its alumni.
[3] ALUMNI GLOBAL LINKAGE INITIATIVE
Alan Kam Poh Kwan’s {Cohort: Form 5, 1978] proposal on creating a Global Linkage for our Ipoh ACS Alumni through Facebook and Twitter has been approved by the EXCO on 29th June. We look forward to the benefits of this initiative.
[4] KL & KLANG VALLEY SUB-COMMITTEE
On the ground, in line with our Constitution, our Alumni Association EXCO has recently emplaced a sub-committee comprising the following alumni. They will organize activities in Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley for our Alumni Association to promote camaraderie and the Ipoh ACS spirit:
President of Sub-Committee: Peter Lee Siew Cheong: Secretary – Thilakan Ramalingam; Treasurer – Lau Wun Chew; Committee Members – John Lam Peng Cham (Deputy to President), K. Pasupathy, Alan Kam Poh Kwan, Sritharan and Razman Ravi Abdullah.
We wish them good speed and look forward to hearing from them soon.
[5] ALUMNI LIFE MEMBERSHIP – TARGET 500
We approved 20 applications for Life Membership this Quarter. In the 1st Half of this year we recruited a total of 68 Life Members as against 74 for the whole of last year. Our total membership now comprises 427 Life Members and 10 Associate Members. We only had 285 members as at 31st December 2011. An almost 50% increase. We are targeting to bring up the Life Membership strength to at least 500 by the end of this year. Please join us if you have yet to do so.
[6] ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR IPOH ACS STUDENTS
The Striving For The Best Bursaries have just recently been awarded this week for the first time to 5 Lower Sixth students (they only commenced lessons in Ipoh ACS late May this year). This chalks up the total number of scholarships offered to Ipoh ACS students this year to 38 with a total value of RM 27,250.
[7] OUR ALUMNI DINNER 2013
Preparations are progressing well for our fast approaching Alumni Dinner on Saturday 3rd August 2013. The venue is at Kinta Riverfront Hotel in Ipoh. As in the past, retired principals and teachers are invited to attend the dinner gratis. Together with some serving teachers and present students. The task of finding sponsors for the 11 tables allocated to them is a challenging one. We are fortunate to have secured sponsorship from the following Old Salts:
Dato Ir Chew Choon Seong, Mr Foong Hon Cheong; Dr. Chakr Sri Negara; Ms Chin Mei Leng, Ms Tan Kit Pheng, Dato’ Narayanan Kanan, Mr Lai Chan Fah, Dato’ Cheah Sam Kip, Mr. Thilakan Ramalingam, Ms Jennifer Ng Geok Bee and Datuk Lean Meng Seong
I hear that the entertainment is going to be tantalizing. We will allot maximum time for you to catch up with each other and with our teachers. Soft music will be played throughout the evening to make conversation possible. The Lucky Draw will offer 3 very attractive prizes – a 40” TV set and 2 iPads.
Every table will be provided a bottle of red wine for the dinner proper. Beer may be purchased at any time from the 6 Guinness Anchor sales girls at a special price of RM 5 only. Our appreciation goes to Dato’ Saw Choo Boon, Chairman, Guinness Anchor Berhad. He is of course an Old Salt.
A good time for all is expected that evening. The dinner is open to alumni of Ipoh ACS and Ipoh MGS.
Please get your tickets now if you have not done so. Tickets are being well taken up. We are only catering for 60 tables so please hurry up to avoid disappointment.
A good number of foreign and outstation alumni will be attending. You may book rooms at Kinta Riverfront Hotel at a special rate of RM 170 per night for deluxe room and RM190 for superior room.
Please refer to our website for ticket and hotel room booking details.
See you all that evening.
Best regards,
Lean Meng Seong
President, Alumni Association
